The Call vs. The Pull
There is a difference between The Call and The Pull. The Call beckons to the threshold - that liminal space between the known and the unknown, between vision and action.
The Call might feel uncomfortable, scary, exhilarating - courageous. The Call might feel boring, mundane, and necessary. The Call might feel easy but not simple to ignore.
The Pull is magnetic and convincing - The Pull is predictable, comfortable … familiar. Perhaps even painfully familiar. The Pull has been there and done that and wants to keep being there and doing that.
The Pull isn't “bad” - we all need creature comforts to resource and regulate with. Predictability resonates as safety within the nervous system. That said - there is a difference between defaulting to The Pull and leaning towards The Call.
The Call seeks inner harmony; The Pull seeks its comfort zone.
In its quest for inner harmony, The Call might ask for lifestyle changes, behavioral shifts, saying yes instead of no or saying no instead of yes. The Call could insist on staying instead of defaulting to leaving - or leaving instead of defaulting to staying. There is no one-size-fits-all formula for inner harmony. The Call is unique to us all.
In its need for inner comfort, The Pull likes what's familiar - what's known, what it has deemed as default. Even if that familiarity is painful. Sometimes what The Pull might deem comfortable are behaviors that aren't necessarily healthy yet serve as soothing and seemingly helpful in the moment.
What is Life currently calling you towards?
What is Life currently pulling you to?
This difference between The Call and The Pull came to me through decoding a dream I had a few years ago. At the time of the dream, I had been single for quite some time and was deeply yearning for romantic partnership. I woke up from an intense dream where I left a thriving party that was just getting started and went home to my eerily empty house. I woke up from the dream feeling like I'd made a mistake - like I missed an opportunity for love and connection.
Through decoding this dream's underlying message, I was able to discern the difference between “The Call” to stay at the party and “The Pull” to return home, where it was predictable and familiar. Through interpreting and processing this dream, I became aware of a part inside terrified of intimacy and deeper connection. Through decoding this dream, I not only became more aware of The Call vs. The Pull - I also became empowered to make behavioral choices that served my heartfelt dreams.
Our dreams do not sugar coat - while our conscious minds rest, our dreams awaken to reveal empowering inner insights. Learning how to engage directly with your dreams and interpret their underlying messages can serve as an immense blessing for your waking choices and interactions.
